Keep It Weird!
For: Art 1010 | Two Dimensional Design
Fall 2020 | Poster Series
This project was the final for my 2D Design class. The objective was to take any phrase that appealed to us and turn it into a compelling poster design. We had previously been given some examples of traditional screen-printed posters and were encouraged to deviate from those motifs and create the posters in our own style. For my design, I decided to challenge myself and purposefully design something totally ignoring “the grid,” AKA as gospel in graphic design - hence the phrase “keep it weird.” This philosophy informed many other aspects of the design, from the inconsistencies in the phrase across the posters to the imagery itself. Even though I was creating something “off the grid",” to keep the design coherent and appealing, I still had to create a compelling and balanced composition Focusing on these principles of design outside of strict constraints constraints made this a really rewarding project.
